Roofers Recruit Apprentices

Albany, NY (October 8, 2019) - The Roofers JATC of the Capital District, Local Union #241, will conduct a recruitment from January 7, 2020 through December 22, 2020 for five Roofer apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Please note that the openings listed for apprentices represent the total number for three recruitment regions – the Capital District, Mohawk Valley, and North Country regions of the state.

Applications can be obtained and submitted at Local Union #241, 890 Third Street, Albany, NY, every Tuesday, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must verbally attest and be physically able to perform the work required of a Roofer, which may include:
    • Lifting 70 pounds.
    • Working at heights on low-pitch and steep roofing.
    • Climbing ladders and scaffolding.
    • Working in hot and cold weather.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from various job sites and required classes at the approved school.
  • Must pass drug test, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
