Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Recruit Apprentices

Yorkville, NY (January 13, 2018) – The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers, Local Union #2 (Utica), will conduct a recruitment from February 13, 2018 through January 8, 2019 for three bricklayer, mason, and plasterer apprentices and three pointer, caulker, and cleaner apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications may be obtained at Whitestone A of A Veterans, 174 Whitesboro Street, Yorkville, NY, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. If the second Tuesday of the month falls on a holiday, there will be no recruitment that month. For additional information, or to request an application, applicants may call (315) 622-2081.

Applications returned by mail should be addressed to: Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers JAC #2 (Utica), 302 Centre Drive, Albany, NY 12203. Applications must be received no later than January 15, 2019. 

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).
  • Must be physically able to lift 50-100 lbs.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from job sites and related instruction classes.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license in order to operate company vehicles.
  • Must be a resident, for at least six months, within the geographic jurisdiction of Local Union #2, which includes the following counties: Hamilton, Montgomery, Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Essex, Franklin, Warren, Washington, Clinton, Columbia, Greene, Schoharie, Oneida, Herkimer, Madison, Lewis, Onondaga, Cayuga, Oswego, Jefferson, and St. Lawrence.
  • Must provide DD-214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
