NEW YORK STATE TREE LIGHTING IN HARLEM THURSDAY, DECEMBER 12

Live Music, Visit From Santa, and More

 

New York State Office of General Services (OGS) Commissioner RoAnn Destito today announced the annual New York State Holiday Tree Lighting at the Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. State Office Building Plaza will be held on Thursday, December 12. The evening full of free family fun and live entertainment, including musical performances, a visit from Santa, giveaways, and free hot chocolate courtesy of Starbucks will begin at 6 p.m.
 
“Governor Cuomo and I are thrilled to continue New York State’s longtime, annual tradition of lighting a tree for the holidays at the Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. State Office Building Plaza in Harlem,” Commissioner Destito said. “The live performances, visit from Santa, and, of course, the tree lighting create a wonderful holiday atmosphere for friends, family, and neighbors in the community to come together and celebrate the season. I want to thank all the sponsors of this celebration for their generous support.”
 
The public is invited to bring their family and friends to this free event, which is being organized by OGS in collaboration with promoter Greg Mays of Harlem Presents.
 
Live Performances Scheduled for the Tree Lighting Include:
 
  • Azusa SheShe Dance: An original gospel and blues singer and musical theater actress whose singing voice can be described as “contralto and belter with a growl,” is a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee who is living her best life in New York City by way of Harlem and spreading joy to all through the medium of music and her voice of the South.
  • Harlem School of the Arts Harlemettes. 
  • Harlem School of the Arts Griot Choir.
 The Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. State Office Building is located at 163 West 125th Street.
 
Sponsors include, P.C. Richard and Son, Harlem Community Development Corporation, NY State of Health, WBLS, and The Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce.
