2017 NYSPHSAA Nordic Skiing Championships Moved to North Creek Ski Bowl

NORTH CREEK, N.Y. --- Monday and Tuesday’s, Feb. 27-28, 2017 New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s NYSPHSAA Nordic ski championships have been moved from Bristol Mountain, in Canandaigua, N.Y., to the Gore Mountain Nordic Center, in North Creek, N.Y.

Race officials noted that moving the Nordic event to Gore Mountain became necessary because of unseasonably warm temperatures this week and an unfavorable long-range weather forecast for the area.

“The decision to move the NYSPHSAA Nordic State Championships to Gore Mountain was based on conditions at Bristol Mountain that did not allow us to host a quality state championship event next week,” said NYSPHSAA executive director Robert Zayas in today’s announcement.

“Bristol Mountain will continue to serve as the host of the Alpine Championships and we are thankful that Gore has worked with us to move the Nordic Championships.  While this is not ideal, it is always our goal to provide the best championship experience for our student-athletes in the safest environment and in the best possible venues,” continued Zayas.

Today’s NYSPHSAA announcement noted that the move only affects the Nordic course and will not affect the Alpine course, which still has fresh snow and the ability to provide the Alpine skiers a top rate championship course.

The Nordic racing at the North Country Ski Bowl begins at 10 a.m., Monday, with the girls’ individual 7.5k Classic race. The boys’ 10k Classic follows at 11:15 a.m.

Tuesday’s schedule features the girls’ 3x3 Skating Relay, at 10 a.m., followed by the boys’ 3x3 skating relay, at 11:15 a.m. Award presentations is slated for 1 p.m.
