Team USA WinterFest presented by HERSHEY’S Visits Lake Placid Feb. 24

Lake Placid residents can meet several Team USA athletes, enjoy multiple interactive elements at the free Olympic festival during the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The United States Olympic Committee and several Team USA athletes, including 2014 Olympic ice dancing champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White along with five-time Olympic speedskating champion Eric Heiden, will be at Team USA WinterFest presented by HERSHEY’S in Lake Placid, New York, on Feb. 24. The free tour will bring the excitement of the Olympic Winter Games to Lake Placid residents through several interactive elements along with a live musical performance by Third Eye Blind.

WHAT: The 13-stop festival has crisscrossed the country and will make its final stop in Lake Placid, home of the Olympic Winter Games in 1932 and 1980. Highlights at the Lake Placid stop include:

  • Team USA athlete meet and greets
  • Musical performances by Third Eye Blind on the HERSHEY’S Stage
  • HERSHEY'S S'moresmobile giving fans full-size s’mores along with free samples of the new HERSHEY’S GOLD Bars, while supplies last
  • Bobsled Boomerang presented by HERSHEY’S
  • Team USA Social Truck presented by OREO
  • Team USA Curling Challenge presented by OREO
  • Skeleton Virtual Reality Experience powered by Samsung

WHO: Team USA athletes will include:

  • Sasha Cohen: two-time Olympian (2002, 2006) and 2006 silver medalist in figure skating
  • Jim Craig (ice hockey): 1980 Olympian; Olympic gold medalist; NHL goalie
  • Meryl Davis and Charlie White (figure skating): two-time Olympians (2010, 2014); three-time Olympic medalists, including gold in ice dancing at 2014 Games
  • Eric Heiden (speedskating): two-time Olympian (1976, 1980); five-time Olympic champion; set eight world records
  • Vonetta Flowers (bobsled): two-time Olympian (2002, 2006); 2006 Olympic gold medalist; world championship bronze medalist

Established in 1982, the New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) was created by the State of New York to manage the facilities used during the 1980 Olympic Winter Games at Lake Placid. ORDA operates Whiteface, Belleayre and Gore Mountain ski areas; the Olympic Sports Complex at Mt. Van Hoevenberg; the Olympic speed skating oval, Olympic jumping complex and Olympic arena. As host to international and national championships, the Authority has brought millions of athletes, spectator and participants to the region, resulting in significant economic development.
