DEC TO LAUNCH NEW STATEWIDE PROGRAM TO PROMOTE THE GREAT OUTDOORS AND CONNECT WITH NATURE

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Deputy Commissioner, Kathleen Moser, will be joined by other regional natural resource and wildlife staff to launch a new statewide recreational initiative increasing access to the state’s vast natural resources and promoting low-cost opportunities to explore the great outdoors. 

As part of the event, DEC will reveal recent improvements at the Utica Marsh Wildlife Management Area and new upgrades that will be coming to the area.

  • Photo opportunity: Following the announcement there will be a photo op site visit: Attendees are encouraged to walk 1-2 miles to view birds (binoculars needed, some available on site) and to visit the site of newly announced improvement areas.

  • Students from Hartford Elementary school, Regional birding groups, outdoor organizations, and elected officials

Utica Marsh WMA - Town of Marcy and City of Utica, Oneida County

Visitors can access the scenic Canalway Trail from the parking area located off the west side of North Genesee Street near the New York State Department of Transportation facility - GPS Address: 10 Harbor Lock Road West, Utica NY 13502.

*Coming north from downtown, turn right and then circle under Genesee to the parking lot.
