OMH Recognizes Susan K. Miller of Rehabilitation Support Services, Inc. for her Service to the Community

Albany, NY – The New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) is honoring Susan K. Miller, Managing Director of Rehabilitation Support Services, Inc. in Orange and Sullivan Counties, as a recipient of the inaugural OMH Community Care Awards.

These awards are given during May – Mental Health Awareness Month – to recognize the extraordinary achievements of individuals and organizations who have furthered the OMH mission and made a positive contribution to the mental health system in their communities.
OMH Commissioner Dr. Ann Sullivan, said, “OMH is fortunate to have many great partners across the State who are helping us reshape state and local mental health systems by enhancing community-based services, improving the delivery of care and health outcomes for consumers. Susan Miller oversees 25 residential, clinical, care management, rehabilitative and recreational programs, helping vulnerable people and families get the services they need. We truly appreciate her vision, values, and the role she plays in helping us to fulfill our mission.”

Ms. Miller said, “I have been blessed to work in a rewarding field. Working for Rehabilitation Support Services and partnering with OMH has given me and the outstanding people I work with the opportunity and gift to make a positive difference in the lives of adults, children and families living with mental illness. I am honored and humbled to receive this award for doing the work that in actuality has enriched my life.”

Ms. Miller was nominated for her commitment to ongoing quality improvement and the integration of effective, modern, modalities in treatment. Her colleagues have praised her for consistently demonstrating a collaborative and solution-focused professional style that promotes a healthy work environment for her staff as well as constructive relationships with other service-providers and the Office of Mental Health.
In her oversight of her agency’s services in Sullivan and Orange Counties, Ms. Miller has promoted a person-centered approach, which pervades her team. Regionally, Ms. Miller Co-Chairs the Mid-Hudson Regional Planning Consortium, where she brings the same skill, expertise and strength to her role.
The Community Care Awards were created in 2019 to highlight OMH’s partners and stakeholders in local communities across the State that are helping to identify and eliminate gaps in services, and are working to build strong community-based behavioral healthcare systems.  Input from these local partners helps OMH better understand regional needs and implement programs that will help people on the road to recovery from mental illness live their lives with a greater degree of independence and dignity.
