Finishing Trades Recruit Apprentices

Albany, NY (April 1, 2020) - The Finishing Trades Institute of New York at Albany, District Council #9, Local Union #201, will conduct a recruitment from July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021 for five glazier apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Please note that the five openings listed for apprentices represent the total number for three recruitment regions: Capital District, Mohawk Valley, and North Country regions.

Applications can be obtained at The Finishing Trades Institute of New York at Albany Training Center, 191 Broadway, Menands, NY, every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Applications are not available on national holidays. All applications must be filled out on the premises.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (such as a TASC or GED).
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from job sites and required classes at the approved school.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License to operate company vehicles.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
