Plumbers & Steamfitters Recruit Apprentices

West Seneca, NY (August 11, 2018) - The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Plumbers & Steamfitters, Local Union #22, will conduct a recruitment from September 11, 2018 through August 13, 2019 for three steamfitter apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Please note that the three openings listed for apprentices represent the total number for two recruitment regions, the Finger Lakes and Western regions. 

Applications can be obtained and submitted at Local Union #22, 120 Gardenville Parkway, Suite # 2, West Seneca, NY from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Applications will also be available from Monday through Friday during business hours at the following NYS Department of Labor Career Centers:

  • Jamestown Career Center: 4 East 3rd Street, Jamestown NY 14701, 8:30AM - 4:30PM
  • Cattaraugus Career Center: 175 North Union Street, Suite 4, Olean NY 14760, 8:00AM - 5:00PM
  • Orleans Center for Workforce Development: 458 West Avenue, Suite 3, Albion NY 14411, 8:30AM - 5:00PM
  • Chautauqua Works: 407 Central Avenue, Dunkirk NY 14048, 8:30AM - 4:30PM

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).
  • Must provide signed statement from own personal doctor attesting he/she can physically perform duties of a steamfitter.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license in order to operate company vehicles.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from worksites and related instruction facilities.
  • Must be a resident, of at least one year in following Counties and/or townships. This includes:
    • All townships in the counties of Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Niagara, and Wyoming.
    • In Genesee County - the townships of Alabama, Oakfield, Elba, Pembroke, Batavia, Darien, and Alexander.
    • In Orleans County - the townships of Yates, Ridgeway, and Shelby.
    • In Allegany County - the townships of Allen, Alma, Amity, Angelica, Belfast, Bolivar, Caneadea, Centerville, Clarksville, Cuba, Friendship, Genesee, Granger, Hume, New Hudson, Rushford, Scio, and Wirt.
  • Must pass a drug test, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection as an apprentice.
  • Must pass a qualifying battery basic “Work Keys” assessment which includes Applied Math, Workplace documents and Graphic Literacy.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
