Insulation & Asbestos Workers Recruit Apprentices

Long Island City, NY (February 15, 2019) – The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Heat & Frost Insulators, Local Union #12, will conduct a recruitment from March 07, 2019 through May 30, 2019 for 30 insulation and asbestos worker apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Please note that the 30 openings listed for apprentices represent the total number for two recruitment regions – the Long Island and New York City regions.

Applications must be obtained in person at Local Union #12, 15-32 127th Street, 1st Floor, College Point, NY, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., every Thursday, excluding legal holidays and excluding May 23, 2019, during the recruitment period.

A $25.00 testing fee will be charged to each applicant. Please note, you may request that this fee be waived. Fee waivers will be approved upon showing verifiable proof of financial need.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.

  • Must pass a physical exam, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to indenture.
  • Must sign an affidavit attesting that they are physically able to perform the work of the trade.
  • Must pass a certified drug test, at the expense of the sponsor. The drug test will be given to those under final consideration for each class. Once enrolled in the apprenticeship program, apprentices will be drug tested both yearly and randomly, at the expense of the sponsor.
  • Must take an aptitude test administered by Apprentice Performance Solutions.
  • Must score a minimum of 35 points in a pre-ranking list process. A score of less than 35 points will disqualify the applicant from further consideration.
