New York State Holiday Tree Begins Journey to the Capitol November 15

WHAT:

New York State’s holiday trees will be cut down and transported to the Empire State Plaza. One of the donated trees will be placed on the Empire State Plaza and the other in East Capitol Park. Lights will be turned on at the New York State Tree Lighting and Fireworks celebration presented by SEFCU on Sunday, December 2, from 1 to 8 p.m.  There will free skate rentals all weekend and free parking starting at 3 p.m. on Sunday courtesy of Hannaford Supermarkets.

The free event will feature horse and carriage rides and feature music by Tuba Christmas, the Rusty Pipes, and the Capital Area Flute Club; as well as ice skating performances by the Hudson Mohawk Figure Skating Club.  The tree lighting and fireworks will begin at 5:15 p.m. and will be followed by a special Rock and Skate.

The Empire Skate Plaza rink will open for skating this season on Friday, November 30, at 4:30 p.m. weather permitting.

This 35 year-old Blue Spruce donated by the Pappas family will light up East Capitol Park in Albany.
