Sheet Metal Workers Recruit Apprentices

Jamestown, NY (July 15, 2018) - The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Sheet Metal Workers, Local Union #112, will conduct a recruitment from August 15, 2018 through July 19, 2019 for three sheet metal worker apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications can be obtained at Local Union #112, 827 East 2nd Street, Jamestown, NY, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on the third Wednesday of each month, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. All applications must be received no later than July 19, 2019.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as GED or TASC). 
  • Must sign an affidavit stating that they are physically able to perform the work of a sheet metal worker, which may include:
    • Working with sharp objects and hazardous machinery.
    • Possible exposure to loud noise and respiratory irritants. 
    • Prolonged standing and walking.
    • Repeated squatting and bending.
    • Working in extreme temperatures and severe weather conditions.
    • Working in confined spaces.
    • Lifting and moving heavy objects and equipment.
    • Working off of ladders and scaffolds at various heights.
  • Must have a valid NYS driver’s license in order to operate company vehicles.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from various work sites and related instruction classes.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
