Deadline for Proposals is Aug. 2, 2019
Approximately $215,000 in funding is available to help communities in the Hudson River Estuary watershed improve water quality, increase flood resiliency, and conserve natural resources, State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Basil Seggos announced today. Funding is provided by the State's Environmental Protection Fund (EPF) and administered by DEC’s Hudson River Estuary Program in partnership with the New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC) through a Request for Proposals (RFP).
“By partnering with local communities, environmental groups, and civic organizations, New York has significantly improved the environmental health of the Hudson River Estuary,” Commissioner Seggos said. “Governor Cuomo continues to make record investments to protect the river, create new and expanded recreation access, and improve community resiliency from flooding and other potential storm damage.”
The funding will help municipalities document constrictions that cause flooding at culverts and bridges and are barriers to fish movement in Hudson tributary streams. The purpose of the grant is to develop municipal management plans and designs to improve inadequate road-stream crossings through a regional approach that restores aquatic connectivity and reduces flood hazards in multiple municipalities.

The deadline for proposals is August 2, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. The “Restoration of Watershed Connectivity” RFP with application instructions is available on NEIWPCC’s website. General information about the RFP can be found on the DEC website.
In the 2019-2020 State Budget, Governor Cuomo sustained the record-high EPF at $300 million for the fourth year in a row, providing funding for open space conservation, parkland stewardship, and other environmental protection projects, including grants to reduce flooding and restore the Hudson River Estuary.
DEC’s Hudson River Estuary Program focuses on the tidal Hudson and its adjacent watershed from the federal dam at Troy to the Verrazano Narrows in New York City.
