Lake Placid Olympic Museum to Celebrate New Ski Exhibit

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. The Lake Placid Olympic Museum is excited to announce the Sept. 4, 2015 opening of its new exhibit, Learning to Ski: Memories of Olympic Skiers. The exhibit is being funded in part by the Lake Placid Education Foundation.

The new exhibit will celebrate the region’s Olympians from the time these athletes first learned to ski to when they became Olympians.

“From backyard skiing to lollipop races, this exhibit is a fun way for visitors to explore how our local skiers began their Olympic dreams, which are strikingly similar to anyone else who has ever strapped skis to their feet,” said museum director, Alison Haas.

A free reception, featuring cocktails and light refreshments, and silent auction will be held in the museum on Friday, Sept. 4, from 7-9 p.m., to celebrate the exhibit. Proceeds from the auction will help benefit the not-for-profit museum’s educational programming and future exhibits. The reception is also expected to bring together several area Olympic skiers, both past and present.

The exhibit itself will feature an extraordinary list of Olympic skiers to include: Lowell Bailey, Tim Burke, Casey Colby, Annelies Cook, Bill Demong, Art Devlin, Peter Frenette, Joe Lamb, Craig Lussi, Jim Page, Jay Rand, James Shea, Haley (Johnson) Stewart, Andrew Weibrecht and Joe Pete Wilson. World renown photographer Nancie Battaglia has provided several Olympic photos of the athletes, while the display will also include actual equipment used during Olympic competition.

The Lake Placid Olympic Museum is located at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, New York.  It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Call 518-302-5326 or email museum@orda.org for further information.
