LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- The Meet an Olympian program continues Thursday, July 13, when two-time Olympic alpine medalist Andrew Weibrecht visits the Lake Placid Olympic Museum, from 3-5 p.m. Born and raised in Lake Placid, Weibrecht made his World Cup debut in 2006 and has raced full-time on the ski racing tour since 2008. At the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, in Vancouver, Canada, Weibrecht won the men’s Super-G bronze medal. Four years later, he claimed silver in the same event, in Sochi, Russia. This is the first of two scheduled visits for Weibrecht. He is slated to return July 27, with women’s alpine Olympic hopeful Cecily Decker. Other athletes who are a part of the Lake Placid Olympic Museum’s Meet an Olympian program include Lowell Bailey, 2017 World Biathlon Champion and three-time Olympian, joins fellow biathlon teammate and three-time Olympian, Tim Burke, Thursday, July 20, and American luge athlete Chris Mazdzer, a two-time Olympian, Aug. 3. The Meet an Olympian program is a great way for people to meet several of the Lake Placid region’s 2018 Olympic Winter Games hopefuls. During the program, athletes discuss their sport, sign autographs and pose for pictures. The Lake Placid Olympic Museum is located at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, N.Y. All scheduled athletes are subject to change and additional past and future Olympians may join the program. Admission for the Meet an Olympian program is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors 65+ and juniors 7 – 12, and ages six and under are free. Women’s ski jumper Tara Geraghty-Moats kicked off the Meet an Olympic program at the Lake Placid Olympic museum, today, Thursday, July 6. -- ORDA -- Established in 1982, the New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) was created by the State of New York to manage the facilities used during the 1980 Olympic Winter Games at Lake Placid. ORDA operates Whiteface, Belleayre and Gore Mountain ski areas; the Olympic Sports Complex at Mt. Van Hoevenberg; the Olympic speed skating oval, Olympic jumping complex and Olympic arena.
