On Monday, April 6, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will stock Rensselaer Lake at Albany's Six Mile Waterworks with 2,000 catchable-size rainbow trout during a Free Fishing Event in the early season for 2015 fresh water fishing. Six Mile Waterworks is home to a variety of freshwater fish species including: largemouth bass, sunfish, yellow perch, chain pickerel, brown bullhead and most recently, rainbow trout. WHO: DEC Commissioner Joe MartensDEC Regional Director, Keith Goertz City of Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan Executive Director of the Albany Pine Bush Preserve Commission, Chris Hawver Local sportsmen Other state and local elected officials Members of the public are invited to participate in the Free Fishing event WHAT: Six Mile Waterworks Trout Stocking event stocked by VanHornesville Fish Hatchery and Free Fishing event. PENDING LAKE CONDITIONS ARE SUITABLE: When stocking is complete, anyone can fish without a fishing license from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Participants must comply with current fishing regulations. DEC Fisheries staff will be available to provide casting instruction and other fishing education as needed. Fishing equipment and bait will be available for people to use. LL Bean will also be present to provide fly casting demonstrations. DEC staff will be at Six Mile Waterworks the remainder of the week (Tuesday-Friday, April 7-10) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to provide angling assistance.
