Flaming Leaves & Brewfest Highlight the Weekend in Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- Ski jumping and brews will make for another busy autumn Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 10-11, in Lake Placid, N.Y. Some of the nation’s top ski jumpers will soar off the Olympic Jumping Complex’s 90-meter ski jump, during the annual Flaming Leaves Festival, Saturday and Sunday, while more than 50 micro-breweries will celebrate the craft of brewing beer during Saturday’s third annual Lake Placid Brewfest.

 

The fun begins Saturday, at 11 a.m., with the New York Ski Educational Foundation (NYSEF) ski jumping event.  The first of two rounds of jumping begins at 1:30 p.m.

 

While these athletes soar the length of a football field, fans can enjoy ribs, burgers and more prepared by Centerplate to the sounds of live Blues music.  Chaz DePaolo will kicks things off when they take to the stage from noon- 1 p.m., and return to play from 2-3 p.m. Saturday’s Blues lineup also includes Blues for Breakfast, from 1-2 p.m. and 3-4 p.m.

 

Other family fun activities Saturday include lawns games, craft vendors, tie dying and extreme tubing. Hop in and hold on as you rocket down the landing hills of the 90 meter, 48 meter and 20 meter ski jumps, approaching speeds of up to 50 miles-per-hour.

 

From there, the fun moves over to the Olympic Center’s 1932 Rink for the third annual Lake Placid Brewfest, from 3-7 p.m. Open to everyone 21 years and older, the Brewfest will highlight more than 100 different kinds of beer from around the country.

 

This year’s festival will feature Ausable Brewing Company, Keeseville, N.Y.; Blue Line Brewery, Saranac Lake, N.Y.; Blue Point Brewing Company Patchogue, N.Y.; Empire Brewing Syracuse, N.Y.; Good Nature Brewing, Hamilton, N.Y.; Great Adirondack Brewing Company, Lake Placid, N.Y.; Ithaca Beer Company, Ithaca, N.Y.; Lake Placid Pub & Brewery, Lake Placid, N.Y.; Old Saratoga Brewing Company, East Saratoga, N.Y.; Otter Creek Brewing Company, Middlebury, Vt.; Plattsburgh Brewing Company, Plattsburgh, N.Y.; Sierra Nevada Brewing, Company, Chico, Calif.; Some Brewing Company, York, Maine; Switchback Brewing Company, Burlington, Vt.; The Shed Brewery, Stowe, Vt. and many more.  For a complete list of breweries, visit http://www.whiteface.com/events/lake-placid-brewfest

 

Music will be provided by Annie in the Water, while each of the breweries will be on hand to offer samples and talk brewing.

 

Then on Sunday, watch as a star studded line up of our nation’s best compete for the title of U.S. national champion in the sports of ski jumping and nordic combined.  Sunday’s competition starts at 11 a.m. with ski jumping, followed by the 10-kilometer roller ski to determine the U.S. Nordic Combined champion at 3 p.m. 

 

While these athletes compete, the music lineup will feature Funky Blu Roots, from 12-1 p.m. and 2-3 p.m., and the Waydown Wailers, 1-2 p.m. and 3-4 p.m.

 

Admission to the Flaming Leaves Festival is $16 for adults and $10 for juniors and seniors.  Two-day passes are also available, $27 for adults and $16 for juniors and seniors, while the Olympic Sites Passport will also be honored for admission.

VIP tickets are also available for $75 and include a private extra hour of tasting exclusive brews, hors d’oeuvres, a brewfest gift and more. The cost is $10 for designated drivers.
