Free Admission at the Lake Placid Olympic Museum on Smithsonian Magazine’s 11th Annual Museum Day Live!

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The Lake Placid Olympic Museum will open its doors free of charge on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015, as part of Smithsonian Magazine’s 11th annual Museum Day Live! On this day only, participating museums across the United States emulate the spirit of the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington DC-based facilities, which offer free admission everyday, and open their doors for free to those who download a Museum Day Live! ticket.

“We are excited to offer free admission to the public on Smithsonian Museum Day Live! It is a great opportunity for visitors to the area and our community to see the variety of projects we have been working on,” said Lake Placid Olympic Museum director Alison Haas. “One day a year we offer this and it is a great chance for those that may have never been in the museum to see Lake Placid’s Olympic history.”

Also, available for viewing at the Lake Placid Olympic Museum, on Sept. 26, is a new exhibit, Learning to Ski: Memories of Olympic Skiers. The exhibit celebrates the region’s Olympians from the time these athletes first learned to ski to when they became Olympians. Included are childhood photographs of the Olympians along with several Olympic photos by world renown photographer Nancie Battaglia.

The Museum Day Live! ticket will be available to download at Smithsonian.com/museumdaylive.  Visitors who present the Museum Day Live! ticket will gain free entrance for two at participating venues for one day only.  One ticket is permitted per household, per email address.  For more information about Museum Day Live! 2015 and a full list of participating museums and cultural institutions, please visit:  Smithsonian.com/museumday/venues.

The Lake Placid Olympic Museum is located at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, New York.  It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  For more information, call 518-302-5326.
