MTA LIRR Providing Extra Service to 2016 U.S. Open Tennis Tournament at Flushing Meadows Park August 23 thru September 11

Half-Hourly Service via Port Washington Branch to Mets-Willets Point Station

MTA Long Island Rail Road will be providing extra stops at Mets-Willets Point Station on the Port Washington Branch to get fans to the U.S. Open Tennis Tournament beginning with the start of qualifying rounds on Tuesday, August 23 right through to the final championship rounds on Sunday, September 11.

Mets-Willets Point Station is just steps away from the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, where the tournament is held annually.

Whether you are coming from Long Island or from New York City, there is no faster or more convenient way to see the world’s best players. Port Washington Branch trains will stop at Mets-Willets Point every 30 minutes for the qualifying rounds scheduled for August 23 - 26, Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day on Saturday, August 27 and for the tournament, which runs from Monday, August 29 through Sunday, September 11.

Eastbound from Penn Station, the trip to Mets-Willets Point is just 19 minutes. Westbound on the Port Washington Branch, Mets-Willets Point Station is 17 minutes from Great Neck and 27 minutes from Port Washington.

Customers traveling from branches other than Port Washington can take the LIRR to Woodside to transfer to a Port Washington-bound train and get off at Mets-Willets Point. Customers transferring at Woodside should tell the conductor about their travel plans. Customers must hold onto their LIRR tickets and have them ready for presentation and collection upon exiting the train at Mets-Willets Point.

Customers are urged to purchase their tickets before boarding the train to avoid the higher onboard ticket fare by visiting a ticket machine or staffed ticket window. Or, download the MTA’s new and convenient eTix app for ticket purchases.  For those attending matches on the weekends only and traveling within City limits (specifically Queens and Manhattan), a specially priced CityTicket is available for same-day use and is priced at $4.25 each way.
