NYS Chief Information Security Officer Receives 2018 SANS Difference Maker AwardDeborah Snyder Recognized Among Elite Group of Leaders |

The New York State Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) today announced that Deborah Snyder, New York State Chief Information Security Officer, received the SysAdmin, Audit, Network and Security (SANS) Institute 2018 Difference Maker Award. The SANS Institute established the SANS Difference Maker Award to honor the unsung heroes in cyber security whose innovation, skill, and hard work have resulted in real successes in information security. Snyder was honored at the sixth annual SANS Cyber Defense Initiative Conference in Washington, D.C., Dec. 17. Robert H. Samson, New York State Chief Information Officer, called Snyder a leader whose vision and leadership help keep New York State safe from cyber threats. "In reading the description of this award, I could think of no one more deserving than Deb," Samson said. "Her experience and vision drive her work and result in innovative cyber security solutions that deliver maximum impact for our clients and all New Yorkers. Cyber security is a critical part of our work, and Deb's leadership is helping protect New York State's critical information and safeguard the privacy of New Yorkers. Congratulations, Deb, on this well-deserved honor!" Snyder said, "I am truly honored to be recognized as a SANS 2018 Difference Maker. In New York State, cyber security is a strategic priority. I am fortunate to be supported by a talented team of cyber security professionals at ITS. I am especially grateful and humbled by the fact that the SANS Institute, a long-standing and trusted leader in the field of information security research and education, chose to highlight my contributions to cyber security in New York State." In her role at ITS, Snyder directs the Chief Information Security Office comprehensive governance, risk management and compliance program. She is responsible for providing strategic leadership and vision, and assuring business-aligned, risk-based investments that maximize business opportunity and minimize cyber security risk. Snyder has extensive experience in government program administration, information technology and cyber security policy. She actively supports the State's efforts to engage citizens and enhance the delivery of government services. She serves on the NYS Forum Board of Directors, NY CISO Executive Summit Governing Board, is a State Academy for Public Administration Fellow, and member of the Project Management Institute, InfraGard, Information Systems Security Association (ISSA), Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), and the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA). |
