Service Changes are Part of Subway Action Plan,
Station Repairs and Other Ongoing Maintenance, 
Repair and Upgrade Work for Improvements on Multiple Lines

These weekend service changes are part of the MTA Subway Action Plan, Station work in Queens and Manhattan, and ongoing maintenance, repair and upgrade work throughout the MTA New York City Transit subway system, to maintain and upgrade track, signal, station and other infrastructure in order to provide MTA customers with safe and reliable service.  More information on the 2015-2019 Capital Program is available here.

This weekend, work crews will be dispersed throughout the entire subway system to perform a variety of critical tasks in the areas of track replacement and maintenance, signal modernization, station enhancements, electrical upgrades and communication improvements.  All this work is aligned with the MTA Subway Action Plan, a comprehensive plan to stabilize and modernize the subway system by attacking the key drivers of 79 percent of delay-causing major incidents and strategically targeting additional personnel and equipment to focus on critical parts of the system.

TripPlanner+ is an online tool that provides customized travel guidance based on available service and takes weekend service diversions into account.  In addition, customers can receive customized subway status emails or texts by signing up at www.MyMTAalerts.com.

From 5:45 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, August 25, and Sunday, August 26, downtown  trains skip 137 St, 125 St, 116 St, 110 St and 103 St due to track maintenance.  As an alternative, use an uptown  to continue your trip.  Transfer at 96 St, 145 St or 168 St.    

From 9:30 p.m. Friday, August 24 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 27, free shuttle buses will replace  trains between 135 St and E 180 St due to track replacement.   trains will run in two sections: between Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College and the 148 St  line station, and between E 180 St and Wakefield-241 St.  Free shuttle buses will run between 135 St and E 180 St.  Transfer between trains and buses at 135 St and/or E 180 St. 

At all times until November 2018,  trains will skip 145 St in both directions due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project.  The 145 St  line station opened more than a century ago in 1904.  As crews make critical repairs to the station infrastructure such as concrete and metal platforms, stairs, beams and columns, they will also work to modernize the station with enhancements to all entrances including stairs, LED lighting, digital signage providing real-time service information, and new turnstile areas with security cameras and brighter lighting.  Countdown clocks and Help Points, which allow customers to communicate quickly with staff for assistance or emergencies, will be installed throughout the stations.  New station furniture and platform safety enhancements such as tactile edge warning strips also will be installed to improve customer safety.  During this closure, use nearby stations at 148 St , 145 St , or 135 St .  Use M7 and M102 buses along Lenox Av, or the Bx19 along 145 St and transfer to the subway with a MetroCard.  For a graphical guide to these alternate travel directions, click here. 

From 10 p.m. Friday, August 24, to 5 a.m. Monday, August 27, downtown  trains run local from 125 St to Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall, and uptown  trains run local from Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall to Grand Central-42 St due to track maintenance at various locations between Grand Central and Brooklyn Bridge, switch work near 14 St and drain cleaning as part of the Subway Action Plan on the downtown express track between 125 St and Grand Central-42 St.  As a reminder,  trains will not run overnight in Manhattan. 

At all times until December 2018,  trains will skip 28 St in both directions due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project.   The 28 St  station is one of the oldest in the subway system, since it opened on the day that subway service began in October 1904.  See the  entry above for project details.  For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby 6 stations along Park Av South at 33 St or 23 St.  Or, use the nearby 28 St  station Broadway.  Local buses are also available along Lexington Av and Madison Av.  For a graphical guide to these alternate travel directions, click here. 

From 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, August 25, and from 8:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, August 26, free shuttle buses will replace  trains between 149 St-Grand Concourse and E 180 St due to switch work near 149 St-Grand Concourse, track replacement between Freeman St and Simpson St, and between Intervale Av and Prospect Avenue.   trains will run in two sections: between Bowling Green and 149 St-Grand Concourse, and between E 180 St and Eastchester-Dyre Av.  Free shuttle buses will run between 149 St and E 180 St.  Transfer between trains and buses at 149 St-Grand Concourse and/or E 180 St. 

From 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, August 25, and from 8:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, August 26,  trains will run every 20 minutes between Bowling Green and 149 St-Grand Concourse due to track maintenance at various locations between Grand Central and Brooklyn Bridge, switch work near 14 St and drain cleaning as part of the Subway Action Plan on the downtown express track between 125 St and Grand Central-42 St.   trains from Manhattan will skip 138 St-Grand Concourse.  Take the  instead.  Beginning 8:30 p.m. Friday, August 24,  service will end early between E 180 St and Bowling Green.  As an alternative, take the  and/or . 

From 9:45 p.m. Friday, August 24 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 27, downtown  trains will run express 168 St to 59 St-Columbus Circle due to station enhancements at 163 St and 110 St.  As an alternative, use an uptown  local or  to complete your trip.  Transfer at 59 St-Columbus Circle, 125 St, 145 St or 168 St.  As a reminder, the 163 St-Amsterdam Av station is closed for renovations until September 2018.   

From 9:45 p.m. Friday, August 24 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 27, free shuttle buses will replace  trains between 181 St and Inwood-207 St due to track maintenance.   trains will run between 181 St in Manhattan and Lefferts Blvd/Rockaway Park in Queens.  As an alternative, use  trains making nearby stops on St Nicholas Av between 181 St and 207 St.  Transfer at 168 St.  Free shuttle buses will run along two routes: on Broadway, between 181 St and Inwood-207 St, and on Fort Washington Av, between 181 St and 190 St.  Transfer between trains and buses at 181 St.     

At all times until September 2018  trains skip 163 St-in both directions due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project.  Refer to the third  line entry above for a detailed description of renovations and project details.  For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby 168 St , 155 St A, or 157 St  instead.  Use M3, M100 or M101 buses and transfer to the  at 168 St or 155 St with MetroCard.  Need to transfer to another bus?  Ask the M3, M100 or M101 driver for a MetroCard Bus Transfer, which is valid on your next local bus ride within two hours.  On your return trip, ask the station agent at 168 St or 155 St for a transfer to the bus.    

From 9:45 p.m. Friday, August 24 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 27, downtown  trains run local from 59 St-Columbus Circle to W 4 St- Wash Sq, and downtown  trains are rerouted via the  line from W 4 St-Wash Sq to Jay St-MetroTech due to track replacement in the Cranberry Tube.  For service to Spring St, Canal St, and Chambers St, take the  via transfer at W 4 St-Wash Sq.  For service to Fulton St, take the  via transfer at Delancey-Essex Sts.  For service to High St, use the nearby York St  station.  As a reminder,  trains do not run overnight.

At all times until Monday, September 3,  service will be suspended in both directions between Broad Channel and Far Rockaway-Mott Av due to a flood protection project in the Rockaways that will make critical subway infrastructure more resilient in the face of future storms, and improve the overall reliability of subway service on the peninsula.  During this closure,  service will operate between Inwood-207 St and Broad Channel, and via the  to/from Rockaway Park-Beach 116 St.   shuttle trains will run between Rockaway Park-Beach 116 St and Beach 90 St, and via the  to/from Far Rockaway-Mott Av.  For Far Rockaway/Mott Av-bound service take the  via transfer at Beach 90 St.  For a graphical guide to these alternate travel directions, click here. 

Beginning 8:30 p.m. Friday, August 24,  service will end early due to signal modernization.  As an alternative,  line customers should take the  and/or  instead.  As a reminder,  service does not run on weekends.

At all times until September 2018,  trains will skip Cathedral Parkway-110 St in both directions due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project.  When this project is completed, customers will benefit from critical structural and safety repairs and improvements to concrete and steel features such as columns, beams, platforms, walls and stairs.  There will also be other improvements and upgrades such as improved waterproofing, a reconfigured mezzanine area including new glass barriers, new security cameras, LED lighting for increased light and energy efficiency, and enhanced signage for easier navigation including digital, real-time service change and train and bus arrival information.  For alternate service during this closure, walk to the nearby  stations at 116 St and 103 St, along Fredrick Douglas Blvd/Central Park West.  Or take the  at 110 St, along Broadway.  Use the M10 bus along Fredrick Douglas Blvd and transfer to the  ( overnight) at 116 St or 103 St with MetroCard.  If you need to transfer to another bus, ask the M10 bus operator for a MetroCard Bus Transfer, which can be used on your next local bus ride within two hours.  On your return trip, ask the station agent at 116 St or 103 St for a transfer to the bus.  For a graphical guide to these alternate travel directions, click here. 

At all times until late October 2018,  trains will skip 72 St and 86 St in both directions due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project.  See the  entry above for project details or click here.

• For service to/from 72 St, use nearby  stations at 81 St-Museum of Natural History and 59 St-Columbus Circle. Or take the  at, along Broadway.  Use an M10 bus along Frederick Douglass Blvd and transfer to the  ( overnight) at 81 St or 59 St with MetroCard.
• For service to/from 86 St, use nearby  stations at 81 St-Museum of Natural History and 96 St. Or take the  at 86 St, along Broadway.  Use an M10 bus along Frederick Douglass Blvd and transfer to the  ( overnight) at 81 St or 96 St with MetroCard.
• For either station, if you need to transfer to another bus, ask the M10 bus operator for a MetroCard Bus Transfer which can be used on your next local bus ride within two hours. On your return trip, ask the station agent at 81 St, 59 St, or 96 St for a transfer to the bus.

At all times until December 2018,  trains will skip 174-175 Sts in both directions due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project.  As an alternative, customers are advised to use the nearby Tremont Av  or 170 St  stations.  Use the Bx1 or Bx2 along Grand Concourse and transfer to  trains at Tremont Av or 170 St with a MetroCard.  For either station, if you need to transfer to another bus, ask the driver for a MetroCard Bus Transfer which can be used on your next local bus ride within two hours.  On your return trip, ask the station agent at the Tremont Av  or 170 St  station for a transfer to the bus.  For a graphical guide to these alternate travel directions, and listing of nearby bus routes, click here. 

From 9:45 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Friday, August 24, and from 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, August 25, and Sunday, August 26, downtown  trains run express from 168 St to 59 St-Columbus Circle due station enhancements at 163 St and 110 St.  As an alternative, use an uptown  local, or  to complete your trip.  Transfer at 59 St-Columbus Circle, 125 St, 145 St, or 168 St. 

From 10:30 p.m. Friday, August 24 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 27,  trains and free shuttle buses will replace  trains between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and 34 St-Herald Sq due to track replacement north of DeKalb Av.   trains will run as follows: between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr (express between Atlantic Av and 36 St) and between 34 St-Herald Sq and Norwood-205 St.  Free shuttle buses will run between W 4 St-Wash Sq Grand St, stopping at B’way-Lafayette St.  For service between Manhattan and Brooklyn, take the  or  via transfer at Herald Sq and/or Atlantic Av-Brclays Ctr.  For service to W 4 St-Wash Sq, take the  via transfer at 34 St-Herald Sq.     

From 9:45 p.m. Friday, August 24 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 27, uptown  trains skip 155 St, 161 St, 167 St and 170 St due to station enhancements at 167 St and 174-175 Sts.  As an alternative, use a downtown  train to complete your trip.  Transfer at Tremont Av or 145 St.  As a reminder, the 174-175 Sts station is closed for extensive renovations until December 2018.

From 11:45 p.m. Friday, August 24 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 27, Jamaica Center-bound  trains skip 75 Av and Briarwood due to signal modernization along the Queens Boulevard Line.  As an alternative, use a Manhattan-bound  or  to complete your trip.  Transfer at Jamaica-Van Wyck , Union Tpke, or 71 Av.

From 11:45 p.m. Friday, August 24 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 27, Jamaica Center-bound  and 71 Av-bound  trains run express from Queens Plaza to 71 Av due to signal modernization along the Queens Boulevard Line.  As an alternative, use a Manhattan-bound  local or  to complete your trip.  Transfer at 71 Av, Roosevelt Av, or Queens Plaza.  As a reminder,  trains do not run in Queens overnight.   

At all times until December 2018,  trains will skip 57 St in both directions due to due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project.  Beyond repairing deterioration at this station, when this project is completed, customers will benefit from new station entrances enhanced with digital signage providing real-time information, countdown clocks, new railings or canopies, and brighter, more energy-efficient lighting, upgraded turnstile areas with glass barriers, security cameras, new information centers and digital dashboards.  Platforms will be outfitted with new platform edge warning strips, accessible boarding areas, new seating furniture, digital dashboards with wayfinding information and new countdown clocks.  For alternate service during this closure, use nearby stations at 57 St-7 Av , 5 Av/59 St , 7 Av , 5 Av/53 St , or 47-50 Sts .  Local buses are also available along 5 Av, 6 Av and 57 St.  For a graphical guide to these alternate travel directions, and listing of nearby bus routes, click here. 

From 10:45 p.m. Friday, August 24 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 27, Jamaica-bound  trains are rerouted via the  from Jay St-MetroTech to W 4 St-Wash Sq, then via the  to Roosevelt Av due to electrical improvements related to signals and switches between the uptown local and express 6 Av line tracks near the W 4 St-Wash Sq station.  As an alternative, use the  or Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound  train to complete your trip.  Use  stations along 8 Av, or transfer at Jay St-MetroTech, Fulton St , W 4 St, Times Sq-42 St/Port Authority , 7 Av , or Roosevelt Av.    

From 11:45 p.m. Friday, August 24 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 27, Jamaica Center-bound  trains skip 75 Av, Briarwood and Sutphin Blvd due to signal modernization along the Queens Boulevard Line.  As an alternative, use a Manhattan-bound  or  to complete your trip.  Transfer at Parsons Blvd , Union Tpke, or 71 Av.    

At all times until December 2018,  trains will skip 23 St in both directions due to due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project.  The 23 St  station opened around the time of World War II, in December 1940.  These extensive repairs will fix structural defects and deterioration, and include functional station improvements, leading to an enhanced customer experience for approximately 31,000 daily riders who use the 23 St  station.  For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby 34 St-Herald Sq or 14 St  stations along 6 Av.  Or, use the nearby 23 St  station on Broadway.  Local buses are also available along 6 Av and 7 Av.  For a graphical guide to these alternate travel directions, and listing of nearby bus routes, click here. 

From 9:45 p.m. Friday, August 24 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 27, Church Av-bound  trains skip Bedford Nostrand Avs due to station maintenance.  As an alternative, use a Court Sq-bound  train.  Transfer at Classon Av or Myrtle-Willoughby Avs.  

At all times until late Summer 2018, Jamaica Center Parsons/Archer-bound  trains skip 121 St due to station rehabilitation work.  For service to this station, take the  to Sutphin Blvd and transfer to a Broad St-bound .  As a reminder, Broad St-bound  trains skip 121 St from 7:15 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. on weekdays; take the  instead.  For service from this station, take the  to 111 St and transfer to a Jamaica Center-bound . 

From 9:30 p.m. Friday, August 24 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 27, free shuttle buses replace  trains between Myrtle Av and Crescent St due to station improvements at Broadway Junction.   service will operate in two sections: between Broad St and Myrtle Av, and via the  to/from Metropolitan Av, and between Crescent St and Jamaica Center.  Free shuttle buses will provide alternate service, and make all  line station stops between Myrtle Av and Crescent St.  Transfer between trains and free shuttle buses at Myrtle Av and/or Crescent St.  Or transfer between  trains and shuttle buses at Broadway Junction.  As a reminder, the Jamaica Center Parsons/Archer-bound  platforms at 104 St and 121 St are closed for renovations until late Summer 2018. 

From 9:30 p.m. Friday, August 24 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 27,  service is suspended due to station improvements including the installation of new concrete for a new mezzanine floor at Broadway Junction.   Special  trains will provide  alternate service and operate between Broad St and Metropolitan Av.  As a reminder,  service ends early between 71 Av and Delancey-Essex Sts on Friday night. 

At all times until fall 2018, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound  trains skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, New Utrecht Av, 18 Av, 20 Av, Kings Hwy, Avenue U and 86 St due to station rehabilitation work at nine stations on the Sea Beach Line.  When finished, this will yield a better travel experience for our customers including the installation of elevators at 8 Av and New Utrecht Av stations, providing our mobility impaired customers with better accessibility, upgraded communication systems, installation of Help Point intercoms, new stairways and handrails, reconstructed platforms and overpasses, repairs to canopies and columns, and artwork.

• For service to these stations, take the Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound  to Bay Pkwy or Coney Island-Stillwell Av and transfer to a Manhattan-bound .
• For service from these stations, take a Manhattan-bound  to Bay Pkwy or 8 Av and transfer to a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound .
• For New Utrecht Av-62 St, take the  Transfer between  and  trains at 36 St or Coney Island-Stillwell Av.

At all times until February 2019,  trains will skip Broadway and 39 Av in both directions due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project.  When this project is completed, customers will benefit from critical structural and safety repairs and improvements to concrete and steel features such as columns, beams, platforms, walls and stairs. There will also be other improvements and upgrades such as improved waterproofing, a reconfigured mezzanine area including new glass barriers, new security cameras, LED lighting for increased light and energy efficiency, and enhanced signage for easier navigation including digital, real-time service change and train and bus arrival information.  For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby open Astoria line stations at 30 Av, 36 Av, or Queensboro Plaza via the Q102 bus.  For a graphical guide to these alternate travel directions, click here. 

At all times until July 2019,  trains will run local in both directions between 59 St and 36 St in Brooklyn due to structural rehabilitation work to repair and replace steel columns, lighting, ventilators, and deteriorated concrete, and perform water mitigation work to address water seepage in the express tunnel between the 59 St and 36 St stations.   trains will stop at 53 St and 45 St in both directions.

From 9:30 p.m. Friday, August 24 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 27, Astoria-bound  trains skip 30 Av and 36 Av due to station enhancements Ditmars Blvd, Broadway and 39 Av.  As an alternative, use a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound  train to complete your trip.  Transfer at Astoria Blvd or Queensboro Plaza.  As a reminder, due to ongoing station renovations,  trains skip Broadway and 39 Av in both directions at all times until February 2019.   

From 11 p.m. Friday, August 24 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 27,  trains run local in both directions between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and 36 St due to track replacement near DeKalb Av.

From 11 p.m. Friday, August 24 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 27, Manhattan-bound  trains are rerouted via the  line (Lower Manhattan) from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to Canal St due to track replacement.  Astoria-bound  trains are Astoria-bound  trains will make station stops at DeKalb Av, Jay St-MetroTech, Court St, Whitehall St, Rector St, Cortlandt St, and City Hall.

From 11 p.m. Friday, August 24 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 27, free shuttle buses and the  replace  trains between Bay Ridge-95 St and 36 St due to station enhancements at 86 St.   service runs days/evenings between 71 Av and 36 St, Brooklyn, and is rerouted via the  to/from 9 Av, the last stop.  Free shuttle buses make all  stops between Bay Ridge-95 St and 59 St all weekend.  Late night  service between Brooklyn and Whitehall St is suspended - take the  and/or free shuttle buses instead.  Transfer between  trains and free shuttle buses at 59 St, and/or between  and  trains at 36 St.
