FORMER CHATEAUGAY CORRECTIONAL FACILITY SELLS FOR $600,000 AT AUCTION

New York State Office of General Services (OGS) Commissioner RoAnn M. Destito today announced the sale of the former Chateaugay Correctional Facility in Franklin County at public auction for $600,000 to Adar Investment Inc. of Canada, whose representative stated his company would like to see the property used as a Jewish summer camp. The 99-acre property is located at 7874 State Route 11, approximately six miles south of the Canadian border. The minimum bid for the property was $100,000, and there were nine registered bidders at the auction, which was held at the Chateaugay Town Hall.

“The auctioning of un-needed and unused state-owned properties is a priority for Governor Cuomo,” Commissioner Destito said. “We look forward to when the community will see a new use for the former Chateaugay Correctional Facility.”

A contract for the sale of the property is subject to approvals by OGS, and the New York State Offices of the Attorney General and State Comptroller prior to it going into effect. It is anticipated that a closing on the property and transfer to the new owner will take place over the next several months.

The second-highest bidder on the property was Alpha Daycare NYC, and the third-highest bidder was Robert Potenza.
