Miracles Continue … New Olympic Center Scoreboard Raised to the Rafters

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- It took just 10 days. The famed 1980 Rink-Herb Brooks Arena has a new state-of-the-art Daktronics video scoreboard.

On Tuesday, Feb. 7, the only scoreboard the Lake Placid Olympic Center had ever known came down to make way for the new board. For more than 39 years the original scoreboard, that chronicled the “Miracle on Ice” and the United States’ hockey team’s improbable run to the 1980 Olympic Winter Games gold medal, registered scores from Pee-Wees to the NHL.

While gone the original scoreboard is not forgotten. Its four panels have divided between Daktronics, who developed and built the scoreboard for the 1980 Lake Placid Olympic Winter Games, the Lake Placid Olympic Museum, the New York State Museum and USA Hockey.
