DEC Update on Lake George Beach Contamination

Out of an abundance of caution and to ensure the protection of public health, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) staff have determined that Million Dollar Beach and Dog Beach will remain closed until all potential sources of bacterial contamination are fully assessed.

Sampling results that came back today showed decreased levels of coliform bacteria, however samples for E. coli are above or well above the Department of Health (DOH) State Sanitary Code threshold of 235 per 100 ml.

DEC is currently investigating a variety of potential sources of this contamination and will reopen Lake George Beach as soon as test results are once again below acceptable levels.
