DEC to Unveil New Accessible Trail at Five Rivers

WHAT: DEC Executive Deputy Commissioner Sean Mahar and local partners will hold a ribbon cutting to mark the completion of a new accessible trail that is part of the complex of lands at DEC’s Five Rivers Environmental Education Center. Most of the new Fisher Trail’s 0.66-mile length was constructed in compliance with DEC accessibility guidelines for people with mobility disabilities to expand access to outdoor recreation opportunities on DEC lands.

WHEN: Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2022, at 9:30 a.m.

WHERE: Parking lot across from Trumpeter Place on Fisher Boulevard, town of Bethlehem, Albany County. The new parking area entrance is located on the west side of Fisher Blvd. Parking in the lot for the event will be limited to accessible parking only. Other vehicles are encouraged to park on the street at Fisher Blvd or Trumpeter Pl. See Google Maps for exact location.

WHO:  DEC Executive Deputy Commissioner Sean Mahar, and representatives of Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy, Friends of Five Rivers, and the DEC Accessibility Advisory Committee.

VISUALS: Ribbon cutting of new site amenities, including two parking lots, each with a map and information kiosk, one off Fisher Boulevard and the other at the end of Mason Lane. An elevated viewing platform and several accessible benches are available along the trail.

Additional Information: Following the ceremony, a walking tour of the trail will be led by Operations crew members who built the trail and Five Rivers staff.
