DEC and Partners to Kick Off Boating Season with Important Reminder to Protect Waters From Invasive Species

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Region 9 Director Julie Barrett-O’Neill will join state partners to promote invasive species awareness in the Niagara River watershed and remind boaters to follow “Clean. Drain. Dry” steps that will help protect rivers, lakes, and other waterbodies. Watercraft inspection stewards (boat stewards) will be stationed at more than 200 boat launches and decontamination stations throughout the state to educate and assist the public in cleaning equipment this season to prevent the introduction and spread of non-native plants and animals in New York waterbodies.
