SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Starting November 1, Numbers and Win4 players can still win if their numbers are “Close Enough,” in that they either match in exact order or if any numbers are off by one digit.

When players select the “Close Enough” wager type on the new Numbers and Win4 play slips or state “close enough” with their favorite numbers preference or Quick Pick, they will receive tickets printed with the selected numbers, plus all the possible “Close Enough” combinations and amount the player could win with each combination (see sample tickets below).

“The Lottery’s new Close Enough wager type is something that our players have been asking for and now we’ve delivered,” said Gardner Gurney, Director of the Division of the Lottery. “We believe Close Enough will attract new players to the Numbers and Win4 games, as well as current Lottery players, who want to get in on the excitement of this new wager type,”.

The “Close Enough” wager type will be available for players statewide starting November 1.

About the New York Lottery

The New York Lottery continues to be North America’s largest and most profitable Lottery, contributing $3.11 billion in fiscal year 2014-2015 to help support education in New York State.  The Lottery’s contribution represents 14 percent of total state education aid to local school districts.

New York Lottery revenue is distributed to local school districts by the same statutory formula used to distribute other state aid to education.  It takes into account both a school district’s size and its income level; larger, lower-income school districts receive proportionately larger shares of Lottery school funding.
