On May 23, 2013, the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) invites the community to the reopening of Robert Moses State Park. OPRHP Commissioner Rose Harvey will be joined by several state and local dignitaries and will make a public declaration on behalf of Governor Andrew Cuomo that all NYS Parks are open for Memorial Day weekend.

Following the ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open Robert Moses State Park, the media will be invited down to Field 5 to view the replenished beach and rebuilt boardwalk. More than 500,000 cubic yards of sand was used to replenish Fields 4 & 5.

At 1:00pm, all members of the media will be invited over to Jones Beach State Park to see the newly repaired Jones Beach boardwalk. Both boardwalks at Robert Moses and Jones Beach were repaired with Brazilian hardwood certified by the Rainforest Alliance because of its higher durability rating to withstand harsh oceanfront exposure.

New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation maintains and operates 179 state parks and 35 historic sites. For more information on any of these recreation areas, call 518-474-0456 or visit www.nysparks.com, connect on Facebook, or follow us on Twitter.
