Laborers Recruit Apprentices

Massena, NY (May 06, 2016) – The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Laborers, Local #1822, will conduct a recruitment from June 06, 2016 through May 01, 2017 for five skilled construction craft laborer apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications can be obtained at Local Union #1822, 49 ½ Maple St., Massena, NY; Paddock Arcade, Suite15, 2nd Floor, Watertown, NY; or 29 Elm St., Suite 400, Plattsburgh, NY, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the first Monday of each month, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work and related instruction.
  • Must pass a drug test, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to indenture.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
