New York State Office of General Services (OGS) Commissioner RoAnn Destito today announced the 2018 Hispanic Heritage Celebration, the state’s annual celebration of Latin culture, will feature contemporary, high-energy, live music and dancing, as well as delicious foods. This free event will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, September 22 in the Empire State Plaza Convention Center. “Each year people come to the Empire State Plaza to enjoy listening and dancing to amazing music and to eat some incredible food as we celebrate the contributions of Hispanic New Yorkers that have helped to define what makes New York State great,” Commissioner Destito said. “I want to thank all our generous sponsors for making this event possible.”
Headliners Oro Sólido was formed by merengue artist Raul Acosta, a.k.a. “El Presidente” in 1994. The band has since positioned itself as one of the biggest Latin music groups in the world.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with music provided by DJ Boy Boy. The event will also feature live performances by Charlie Cruz, who will have salsa fans swinging their hips on the dance floor, and Cynthia, one of freestyle dance music’s biggest and brightest stars.
Performance Schedule
Free parking will be available in the Cathedral and Madison Lots on Madison Avenue and in the East Garage on the corners of Madison Avenue, Eagle Street, and Philip Street. Paid parking is also available in the visitor or V lot underneath the Plaza.
Event attendees are not allowed to bring their own alcoholic beverages, coolers (defined as rigid insulated containers), or glass containers of any kind to the Plaza. Alcohol will be sold by vendors to adults with proper identification.
