Statement from MTA Chief Safety and Security Officer Patrick Warren |
|
“In less than 10 hours on May 10, the NYPD arrested four people in the transit system by being alert, focused and spread out across the subways. NYPD teams patrolling stations spotted people who were wanted for past crimes. Similarly, officers riding trains observed a crime in progress and different officers followed a recidivist perpetrator to a subway station and made an arrest when he committed a new crime. This is the kind of protection of New Yorkers anticipated when the Mayor committed hundreds of additional officers to visibly ride trains and patrol platforms. The NYPD’s success in stopping criminals sends a strong message of deterrence while reassuring riders who are returning to transit in increasing numbers every week.” On Background Arrests: Time and Place of Occurence Tuesday, May 10 at 2:30 AM, 50th Street/8th Avenue - E & C Lines Tuesday, May 10 at 9:50 AM, Chambers Street – J Line Tuesday, May 10 at 11:55 AM, Cypress Avenue – 6 Line |
