Snowmaking In Progress on both Downhill & XC Terrain as Weather Allows

NORTH CREEK, N.Y. – Gore Mountain is pleased to announce significant expansion of its Nordic and snowshoe trail system at the North Creek Ski Bowl.  The Nordic network is now 4.24K, and 3.19K of it features both snowmaking and lights.  Plans call for the trails to be open daily and nightly for both public recreation and for team training and racing.  Snowmaking has already begun at both the Ski Bowl and on Gore’s downhill terrain, and both areas will open as soon as weather allows.

It is rare for the Nordic community to have a venue that provides both reliable snow surfaces and lighting.  The Ski Bowl’s new terrain, which will be open both day and night, is being happily welcomed by cross-county skiers and snowshoers.  Four sprint courses and a 2.5K loop are already being reviewed for certification by FIS (International Ski Federation) certified so that large, sanctioned events can be held.  Events for both public and race teams have been scheduled.  Cross-country ski packages and snowshoes are available for rent, and the Gore Mountain Snow Sports School offers beginner Nordic lessons.

Gore Mountain’s Nordic network consists of 9 loops rated within the ability levels of easier, more difficult, and freestyle.  Guests can explore a range of terrain including wooded trails, open stadium-like areas, moderate to challenging uphill climbs, and descending banked turns.  Other terrain features include a “mass start” area for when large Nordic events take place, a testing loop to check wax and ski speeds, and a modern freestyle trail with dips, jumps, and slalom turns to help with balance, speed, and agility. Within the Ski Bowl, skiers and snowshoers will find scenic overlooks of Moxham Mountain and the High Peaks.

The network is laid out in a way for guests to enjoy the full 4.24K, or choose among a variety of loop alternatives to create their own favorite routes. Use of the terrain is included with all Gore Mountain season passes and daily lift tickets, or Nordic-only tickets and passes are available.  The Ski Bowl Lodge offers a snack bar, fireplace, and cafeteria style seating, while outside there is a yurt, fire pit, and bleachers to keep athletes and spectators comfortable.
