Ironworkers Recruit Apprentices

Rochester, NY (April 13, 2017) - The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Ironworkers, Local Union #9, will conduct a recruitment from May 5, 2017 through May 4, 2018 for five ironworker (outside) apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications can be obtained at Ironworkers Local Union #9, 412 39th Street, Niagara Falls, NY, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the first Friday of each month, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. 

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED). Proof will be required after selection and prior to indenture.
  • Must pass a drug test and a physical agility test, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to indenture.
  • Must have a valid NYS driver’s license. Apprentices may be required to drive company vehicles.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from various job sites and related instruction classes.
  • Must reside within the jurisdiction of Local Union #9, which includes:
    • The counties of Niagara and Orleans
    • The towns of Yates, Shelby, Ridgeway, and Grand Island North of Whitehaven Rd.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have the legal right to work in the U.S.
  • Must provide military transfer card or discharge form DD-214, if applicable. Proof will be required after selection and prior to indenture.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
