Plumbers and Steamfitters Recruit Apprentices

Latham, NY (July 1, 2013) -- The Plumbers & Steamfitters Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee, Local Union #7, will conduct a recruitment from July 11, 2013 through January 9, 2014 for five plumber/pipefitter apprentices and five heating, ventilating, and air conditioning mechanic apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera announced today.

Applications can be obtained at Local Union #7, 18 Avis Drive, Latham, NY, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. every Thursday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D).
  • Must be physically able to perform the work required, as determined by a physical and a drug test, prior to acceptance.  Note: Costs for medical examinations or drug testing, if required, are at the expense of the sponsor.
  • Must take a NYS Basic Aptitude Test (SATB - Specific Aptitude Test Battery).
  • Must provide military transfer card or discharge form DD-214, if applicable.
  • Must have reliable means of transportation to and from work and related instruction.  The employer will not be responsible for transportation of apprentices.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner.  Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status.  Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs.  Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
