STATEMENT FROM NEW YORK STATE LABOR COMMISSIONER ROBERTA REARDON ON WORKERS’ MEMORIAL DAY

“Each year we mark Workers’ Memorial Day, remembering those who have been lost on the job in the past year. We lament with the families of the workers who have left us and express our hope that the coming year will see an end to fatalities and injuries on jobsites around our state. We all know that some workplaces are dangerous, but we can and must do more to ensure that every worker goes home to his or her family at the end of the day.

“Even one death is one too many and inaction only increases the danger our working men and women face every day. It’s up to all of us – government, businesses and workers – to take the steps necessary to reduce risks and make sure that every hard day’s work is also a safe day’s work.”
