Direct Support Professionals Recruit Apprentices

The Schenectady Arc, will conduct a recruitment from March 1, 2022 through February 28, 2023 for five Direct Support Professional apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications can be obtained online at www.arcschenectady.org/careers.html, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, during the recruitment period. Candidates will need to click “View Current Openings” followed by “Apprenticeship - Direct Support Professional (DSP) Opportunities!” and create an account to access the application.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).  
  • Must pass a complete background check, paid by the sponsor, that meets all Federal, State and Local requirements for these positions. The background test is conducted after selection and prior to enrollment in the apprenticeship program in accordance with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC)
  • Must have a valid NYS driver’s license (that meets agency requirements). Apprentices may be required to drive company vehicles.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from various work sites and required classes at the approved school.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
