The 35th Annual Oyster Festival at Theodore Roosevelt Park in Oyster Bay Village is expected to attract more than 200,000 people on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 13-14, for the East Coast’s largest waterfront fete. Revelers can avoid traffic and parking lines by taking one of the many trains the LIRR will be running to Oyster Bay Station this weekend – dropping festivalgoers off in the middle of the fairgrounds – including three extra eastbound and westbound trains to get there and back for the family-friendly event running from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. An added nighttime train leaving at 8 p.m. from Oyster Bay on Saturday will also be available to accommodate those staying late to watch the fireworks, which begin at 7 p.m.
The festival boasts an abundance of oysters and seafood selections served up by a mixture of volunteers and culinary pros. Watch the legendary oyster shucking and eating contests, get your fill of oyster po’ boy sandwiches, lobster dinners, scallops, crab cakes, fish tacos, brats, gyros, empanadas, steak sandwiches and an international array of desserts, shop the 150 arts and crafts tables, soak in the live entertainment, pirate shows, and more. Profits from food sales will help to support local charities, while profits from carnival rides and merchandise sales is donated to additional charities supported by the Rotary throughout the year. Admission to the festival is free.
Trains to the Oyster Festival will travel over the brand new Buckram Road Bridge in Locust Valley, which the LIRR replaced last weekend - just in time to avoid conflicting with the Oyster Festival weekend. Click here for a time-lapse video of the bridge replacement. *Please note that LIRR Autumn Weekends is not valid on trips to the Oyster Festival.
