Metro-North to Join ‘Community of Helpers’ at Milford Public Library’s Junior Job Fair

June 11 Event Connects Children to the People Who Make Their Neighborhood Thrive

Inspire your child’s imagination at Milford Public Library’s Junior Job Fair on Saturday, June 11 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.  Carol Kirner, a Metro-North conductor, will be joined at the event by more than 20 men and women who also have jobs that delight children, engage their curiosity and keep the community running, including: a firefighter, a police officer, a nurse, a beekeeper and a radio D.J.

"I wanted to reach out to Metro-North about the event not only because children are so enthralled by trains and train conductors, but because Metro-North service is very important to the vitality of our community,” said Danielle Valenzano, Milford Public Library’s Children’s Library Assistant and Junior Job Fair organizer.   “We’re truly grateful to ‘Conductor Carol’ for accepting our invitation; she’s sure to make the event more memorable for the many kids who’ll be attending."

The Junior Job Fair is a chance for toddlers, preschoolers and elementary school aged children to meet some of the “helpers” in their community, learn more about their jobs and the ways in which they make a difference to their town.  Each community helper will set up shop at his/her own table - either inside the library’s program area or on the library’s grounds - and will be armed with special activities for the kids.

Milford Mayor Benjamin Blake will be distributing a Junior Job Fair booklet and stickers so the kids can keep track of all the tables they visit and the people they meet. The event will feature several firetrucks and a TV weather truck for kids to explore, and free lunch and snacks will be provided for all.

“Every weekday, over 1,600 of our customers board trains at the Milford station,” said Joseph Giulietti, President of Metro-North Railroad.  “We always welcome the opportunity to give back to the communities we serve and meet our customers.  The Junior Job Fair is a wonderful way for us to answer children’s questions about the railroad, while giving them important information to make sure they enjoy a safe ride.”
