Background Information as of 6:55 p.m. from MTA following RFK Bridge Incident

The Robert F. Kennedy Bridge is experiencing heavy traffic and lane closures as of 6:55 p.m. following a police-involved shooting on the bridge.

There will be two Manhattan/Bronx-bound lanes closed and one Queens-bound lane closed on the Queens side of the Queens span until noon Monday, Nov. 29, due to an ongoing investigation by the NYPD Crime Scene Unit.

MTA Bridges and Tunnels Officers today arrested the driver and passenger of a stolen motor vehicle following an incident that began at approximately 12:40 p.m. today, Nov. 28, in the Manhattan/Bronx-bound lanes of the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge’s Queens Span that resulted in the injuries to an MTA Bridge and Tunnel Officer and a New York State Trooper.

The MTA is cooperating with the NYPD and New York State Police in the investigation into this incident, which is in its early stages.

The charges are as follows:

Driver, male, 21, I.D. pending, arrested at W. 140th Street and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd.:

Charges: unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment, vehicular assault, fleeing, obstruction of governmental administration, leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Passenger: male, 17, of the Bronx, arrested at W. 142nd Street and Frederick Douglass Blvd.:

Charges: Criminal possession of a weapon, possession of an imitation firearm, obstruction of governmental administration, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
