LIRR Service on Hempstead Branch Reduced from Hourly to Every 2 Hours on Saturday, June 11 from 3 p.m. Until 10 p.m.

Railroad Is Using One Hempstead Track to Meet Belmont Stakes Service Demand

Service on the Hempstead Branch will be reduced from one train every hour to one train every two hours this coming Saturday, June 11 between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. when one of two tracks is taken out of regular service and repurposed to help the Long Island Rail Road meet the extra service demand to and from Belmont Park for the Belmont Stakes. The service change affects all service between Hempstead and Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn, as well as Penn Station via connections at Jamaica.

Westbound

The 4:11 p.m., 6:11 p.m., 8:11 p.m. and 10:17 p.m. trains from Hempstead will originate at Jamaica.  Instead, take trains departing Hempstead at 3:11 p.m., 5:11 p.m., 7:11 p.m., 9:11 p.m. and 11:21 p.m.

Eastbound

The 2:45 p.m., 4:45 p.m., 6:45 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. trains from Atlantic Terminal to Hempstead are cancelled. Instead, take trains departing Atlantic Terminal at 1:45 p.m., 3:45 p.m., 5:45 p.m., 7:45 p.m., 9:45 p.m. and 10:57 p.m.

The service reduction is necessary in order to stage Belmont Stakes trains along one of the two Hempstead Branch tracks, leaving one track available to operate Hempstead Branch service. Normal Hempstead Branch service will operate before and after this period of reduced service.
