White-tail Deer Education Forum in Staten Island

What:
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will conduct a White-tail Deer Education Forum on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at the Jewish Community Center in Staten Island, from 7p.m. - 8:30 p.m. At this forum, Biologists and Education staff from the DEC will present important wildlife information about the White-tail deer to help residents of Staten Island gain a better understanding of the deer, their role in the environment and the conservation and safety issues associated with their growing populations.  DEC staff, will also be joined by representatives from the New York State Parks Recreation & Historic Preservation (NYS Parks).

Invited guests of this White-tail Deer Education Forum include teachers, environmental organizations, civic leaders, health professionals, veterinarians, students, “Friends of” parks groups, elected officials, city agency representatives to attend. The press is also invited to attend.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Basic facts about deer
  • Applicable state wildlife laws
  • Public safety tips
  • Deer impact on native plants and forest ecology
  • How to report a deer incident

When: Tuesday, December 8, from 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
