DEC Statement on Tanker Truck Rollover on Rt. 17K in the Town of Crawford

On Sunday at approximately 10:00 a.m., New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Police, emergency management and Spills Response units immediately responded to the scene of an accident involving a tractor trailer on State Route 17K in the Town of Crawford, Orange County. A westbound tanker truck transporting petroleum lost control and overturned on Rt. 17K, and while no one was injured in the accident some petroleum spilled onto the roadway and surrounding area.

Safety is our top priority, and we are doing everything possible to ensure the well-being of drivers and residents in the area. DEC along with experts from the New York State Department of Transportation, Office of Emergency Management, New York State Police, and the Office of Fire Prevention and Control working with Orange County and local first responders have secured the area and are overseeing cleanup operations of the tanker and the surrounding roadway.

As a precaution, officials are working with local residents to ensure their safety during the cleanup operation and will continue to keep them apprised as the cleanup continues. The impacted portion of Rt. 17K will be reopened as soon as cleanup operations along the road are concluded this evening.
