Electricians Recruit Apprentices

Ithaca, NY (June 25, 2016) - The Electricians Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee of Ithaca, Local Union #241, will conduct a recruitment from July 25, 2016 through July 21, 2017 for six electrician apprentices, the New York State Labor announced today.

Please note that the six openings listed for electrician apprentices represent the total number for three regions – the Central, Finger Lakes, and Southern Tier regions.

Applications can be obtained at Local Union #241, 134 Cecil A. Malone Drive, Ithaca, NY, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED) with one year of Elementary Algebra or Math I. An academic transcript will be required after selection and prior to indenture.
  • Must be physically able to perform the work required, as determined by a physical exam, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to indenture.
  • Must pass a drug/alcohol screening, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to indenture.
  • Must qualify for an interview by passing the electrical trade’s aptitude test.
  • Must be able to climb and work from ladders, scaffolds, poles, or towers of various lengths and heights.
  • Must reside within the jurisdiction of Local Union #241 for at least one year prior to recruitment, or must have worked in the jurisdiction for at least one year. The jurisdiction includes:
    • All of Tompkins County except Groton Township.
    • Genoa Township in Cayuga County.
    • Catherine, Cayuta, and Hector townships in Schuyler County.
    • Covert and Lodi townships in Seneca County.
    • Candor and Spencer townships in Tioga County.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from related instruction classes and work within the union’s geographic area.
  • Must be willing and able to attend all related classroom training, as required.
  • Must provide military transfer card or discharge form DD-214, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
