INSPECTOR GENERAL LUCY LANG RELEASES HISTORICAL HORSE RACING INVESTIGATIONS AS PART OF GROUNDBREAKING TRANSPARENCY INITIATIVE |

New York State Inspector General Lucy Lang today announced the online publication of historical investigative documents regarding horse racing as part of her ongoing effort to increase transparency about her office’s work. The publication of these 15 documents marks an important step forward in the Inspector General’s continuing efforts to help ensure the integrity of all lawful gaming in New York State, for the benefit of New Yorkers everywhere.
On November 29, 2021 – Inspector General Lang’s first day on the job – the Inspector General’s Office published 59 historical advisory letters to state agencies and authorities outlining relevant findings and recommendations of matters that were referred to the office. The next set of historical documents released today – 15 comprehensive reports and letters from the former Gaming Inspector General involving horse racing between 2015 and 2021 – is now available on the “Public Information” page of www.ig.ny.gov (note the filters for “Reports” and “Letters” on the left-hand column). The ongoing publication of historical advisory letters and investigative reports is part of the Inspector General’s Government Transparency Initiative, as mandated by Governor Kathy Hochul.
“Since the day I took office, we made transparency the cornerstone of this office, establishing a new standard of trust in Albany for the people we serve,” said Inspector General Lang. “Today’s announcement reflects the transfer of the Gaming Inspector General to our office as part of last year’s enacted state budget. These newly published reports are comprehensive and thorough, and all New Yorkers deserve to see first-hand the great work done by the Gaming Inspector General. We will continue to be at the forefront of innovation, integrity, and transparency."
The Gaming Inspector General, originally created within the Gaming Commission by statute in 2013, was transferred to the Offices of the State Inspector General in June 2021 as part of the enacted 2021-2022 New York State Budget. These newly published materials are being released in collaboration with former acting Gaming Inspector General and current Deputy Inspector General for Gaming Lisa Lee as part of Inspector General Lang’s commitment to transparency.
Portions of the records have been redacted due to privacy concerns and exceptions from disclosure as mandated by New York’s Freedom of Information Law (FOIL). The Inspector General’s Office will continue to publish additional historical advisory letters on a rolling basis.
