On July 5, 2022, four Delta Lake State Park lifeguards responded to a 911 call from the campground reporting that an 11-month-old boy at a campsite was unresponsive. Park Manager Joe Morisette drove from the Park Office to the beach and brought lifeguards Olivia Smith, Michael Corr, Gavin Civitelli, and Dennis vanHoesel to the scene. The lifeguards joined a volunteer firefighter who was staying in the campground in performing CPR on the infant. On the 15^th cycle of CPR, a pulse was felt. Rescue breaths were continued until the child was moved to an ambulance and transported to the hospital. The child was later reported to be in stable condition after what was suspected to be an allergic reaction.

On Monday, State Parks Commissioner Erik Kulleseid and Oneida County Sheriff Robert M. Maciol will join the lifeguards at Delta Lake State Park to recognize their heroic response.
