Metro-North Offers Special Fall Foliage Service on Saturday, November 4

Catch the Color in the Hudson Valley and Explore Getaway Destinations

Back by popular demand….it’s Metro-North’s special fall foliage service.  Metro-North Railroad today announced that on Saturday, November 4, it will run five additional Hudson Line trains for leaf peepers, hikers and day-trippers to experience autumn in the Valley.

Metro-North offered the additional leaf peeping service last Saturday, and it was a great success, with four times the ridership compared to a non-leaf peeping weekend.  Make a day of it, take in the brilliant fall colors and explore Metro-North getaways to regional cultural and scenic destinations.

Three additional Hudson Line trains will travel from Grand Central Terminal to Beacon or Poughkeepsie in the morning, departing at: 8:31 a.m., 9:31 a.m. and 10:31 a.m. Two additional Hudson Line trains will travel from Poughkeepsie to Grand Central in the afternoon, departing at 4:38 p.m. and 5:38 p.m.  The extra trains also stop at Harlem/125th Street station, Tarrytown, Ossining and Croton-Harmon, as well as all stops in the upper Hudson River valley, including the popular hiking stops at Breakneck Ridge and Manitou.

Dia: Beacon
The experience:
Located on the banks of the Hudson River in Beacon, New York, Dia:Beacon  is just an 80-minute train ride from Grand Central Terminal.  Occupying a former Nabisco box printing factory, the museum is the home for Dia’s collection of art from the 1960’s to the present as well as special exhibitions, new commissions, and public and education programs. Since its opening in 2003, Dia:Beacon has helped transform the City of Beacon into a vibrant arts destination.

In keeping with Dia’s history of single-artist presentations, each gallery was designed specifically for the presentation of one artist’s work.

Examples include Dan Flavin’s series of fluorescent light “monuments to V. Tatlin”; Joseph Beuys’ mixed-media installations such as Fond III/3 (1979) and Fond IV/4 ; Richard Serra’s Torqued Ellipses; and Michael Heizer’s North, East, South, West, among others.

Dia worked closely with the artist Robert Irwin to design a twenty-first century museum, with nearly 240,000 square feet of gallery space that retained the original character of the building. Dia:Beacon is often referred to as a “daylight museum” because its expansive galleries include nearly 34,000 square feet of skylights – which is an unusual characteristic for an art museum.

Dia:Beacon is part of Dia Art Foundation's constellation of sites.

Museum Days and Hours:
Hours of operation change seasonally. For current hours, as well as more information on the Museum, including group tours, call 845-440-0100 or visit Dia Art Foundation here before your trip.
