Creedmoor Psychiatric Center in Queens Announces Upcoming Community Mental Health Event

“Community Education Day” to Engage Queens Village Community in Mental Health Conversations and Awareness

Queens Village, NY - Creedmoor Psychiatric Center, a facility operated by the New York State Office of Mental Health, will be hosting a “Community Education Day” event on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at the Queens Village campus. This event is being organized by The Creedmoor Community Awareness Committee to educate community members about the various aspects of mental health.

“By involving residents of Queens Village in a discussion about mental wellness, recovery from mental illness and the importance of psychiatric care, we hope to raise awareness, foster inclusion and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health,” says Office of Mental Health Commissioner Dr. Ann Sullivan.

The event will feature a panel of experts in psychiatry, medicine, pastoral services, social work, nutrition, and peer support.  Each panelist will speak on their discipline’s contributions to mental health and recovery.  The goal is to educate the community about the importance of incorporating mental health treatment, physical health, nutrition, spirituality, and community support to achieve mental wellness

“This is a new day at Creedmoor Psychiatric Center.  We are eager to work closely with our community including residents and service providers.  We look forward to what will be an annual event here on our campus,” says Dr. Martha Adams-Sullivan, Creedmoor Psychiatric Center’s Executive Director.

“The professionals at Creedmoor have a wealth of knowledge in all aspects of mental health.  We want to share this information and be a valued resource for our community,” says Heather Callahan, Creedmoor Psychiatric Center’s Director of Social Work.

More than twenty community agencies and organizations will be at the event sharing information about the services they provide, including: New York City Children’s Center, NAMI, Well Life Network, Zucker Hillside Pros, NYC Well, NYAPRS, Pathway Home Programs, New York Connects, Goodwill NY Industries, Pride of Judea, ACCES-VR, Child Center of NY, Federation of Organization, PARC Peer Alliance Recovery Center, Creedmoor Addiction Treatment Center, ACMH, Transitional Services for NY, Korean Community Mental Health Service, Venture House, and The Creedmoor Peer Academy.
