Revised: FASTRACK Maintenance and Repair Work to Bring Improvements to G Line

An extensive list of maintenance, cleaning and repair work will be performed along a portion of the g Line between Long Island City and Bedford-Stuyvesant, beginning Monday, June 5, when MTA New York City Transit’s FASTRACK program begins the first week of a two-week effort.  FASTRACK work will be performed for four consecutive weeknights, from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. on June 5-9 and June 12-16.  During those periods, g service will be suspended in both directions between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs.

During this seven-hour period, an army of maintenance workers will take advantage of train-free access  to perform dozens of tasks that are vital to providing safe and reliable train service such as repairing and replacing track, third rail, electrical and signal components, removing debris from tracks and under or around the third rail, and repairing tunnel infrastructure.  Improvements to station aesthetics include painting, platform work, and repairs to signage, lighting fixtures and ADA components.

Wynton Habersham, Senior Vice President for the Department of Subways, said, "FASTRACK has proven to have a significant impact on decreasing delays - both in terms of consolidating maintenance forces in a concentrated area and in terms of proactive maintenance that improves service delivery."

FASTRACK has been designed around the careful determination that there is adequate alternate means of transportation, including enhanced services along some bus lines during work periods.  Alternative transportation options will be detailed in announcements and posters on trains, in stations and on selected buses.

During this FASTRACK, free shuttle buses run between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Court Sq, stopping at Myrtle-Willoughby Avs, Flushing Av, Broadway, Metropolitan Av, Nassau Av, Greenpoint Av, and 21 St.  Customers may transfer between g trains and free shuttle buses at Bedford-Nostrand Avs, or transfer between free shuttle buses and l trains at Metropolitan Av- Lorimer St.  Transfer is also available between free shuttle buses and 7e trains at Court Sq.  Customers are advised that 7 trains will not run between Queensboro Plaza and 34 St-Hudson Yards from 11:45 p.m. Monday, June 12 through 5:00 am. Tuesday, June 13.  More information on this FASTRACK can be found on the web at http://web.mta.info/nyct/service/fastrack_G_Line.htm

Our next FASTRACK overnight closure will be on the 1 Line between 96 St and Dyckman St for two consecutive weeks from June 19-23 and June 26-30.
