PUTNAM VALLEY, N.Y. – Steven Auth, 58, of Putnam Valley, Putnam County won a $1,000,000 Powerball prize from the August 7, 2013 drawing. Auth is the first Putnam County Lottery millionaire in 2013.

Auth, a general contractor, explained, “I cut my hand on the job that day, and got a couple of spots of blood on the play slip I was filling out. So instead of filling out a new one, I filled in the spots with the blood on them and turned it in.”

Auth’s wife, Sandy, stayed up to watch the drawing on August 7 and wrote down the winning numbers. Auth said when she realized they had won big, she started running through the house shouting “We won! We won” and woke everyone up.

Auth said his plans for the money include investments for the future, purchasing some newer vehicles and giving some thought to “retiring a little earlier than planned.”

Auth purchased his Powerball ticket at Josan Putnam Valley Deli at 4 Sunset Hill Road in Putnam Valley. He claimed his prize on August 13 at the Lottery’s Fishkill Customer Service Center.

Auth will receive his $1,000,000 Powerball prize in one lump sum totaling $661,800 after required withholdings. The winning numbers for the August 7 Powerball drawing were 05-25-30-58-59 and Powerball 32.

Auth is New York State’s 94th Lottery millionaire in 2013.

The New York Lottery contributed $11,897,861.67 in Lottery Aid To Education to school districts throughout Putnam County during fiscal year 2012-13.

New York Lottery revenue is distributed to local school districts by the same statutory formula used to distribute other state aid to education.  It takes into account both a school district’s size and its income level; larger, lower-income school districts receive proportionately larger shares of Lottery school funding.
