The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced the agency joined the massive local community relief efforts to help the more than 200 families displaced by the recent high-rise fire in the Bronx.

MTA Chaplains, along with community members and state and local agencies, were on hand in the immediate aftermath of the fire, and, on Tuesday, Jan. 11, community members and groups organized the "#StrongerTogether Big Drop Donation Drive" near the site of the fire to collect clothing, toys and other items to help the affected families begin rebuilding their lives. As part of that effort, two MTA Police officers loaded donated toys onto a New York City Transit bus, which was used in the collection and delivery of donated items.

“The MTA is a part of every community in the region, and I am proud to see our employees spring into action when they see a group of local families in need,” said MTA Acting Chair and CEO Janno Lieber. “I want to thank our transit employees and colleagues at the MTAPD for contributing to this effort to care for neighbors following this tragic fire.”
